FDA finally acknowledges toxicity of mercury fillings

Source: The Douglass Report

Consumers for Dental Choice announced that they settled a lawsuit that will compel the FDA to comply with a new law and classify mercury amalgam, after almost a decade of negotiations whereby
the FDA agreed to drastically alter its Web site on dental amalgams clearly stating now that
"Dental amalgams contain mercury, which may have neurotoxic effects on the nervous systems of developing children and fetuses. When amalgam fillings are placed in teeth or removed from teeth, they release mercury vapor. Mercury vapor is also released during chewing. FDA's rulemaking will examine evidence concerning whether release of mercury vapor can cause health problems, including neurological disorders, in children and fetuses."

Amalgam fillings leak mercury into your system at an alarming rate. Researchers discovered that when they stimulated an amalgam filling, they could actually see the mercury vapor emanating from the filling for at least an hour and a half. It doesn't take much to stimulate a filling, either: It happens every time you eat, brush your teeth, chew gum, or grind your teeth. And yes – the vapors that come off those fillings are toxic.

Know Your Mouth -Filthy or Not

Your lips, teeth, and gums are trying to warn you about major health risks. Are you listening?

Is there a more brain-dead time than the 2 minutes you spend brushing your teeth? You stand in front of the mirror, bristle to enamel, foam spewing, with nary a thought in your head. Thing is, you're missing the most important opportunity of the day for self-diagnosis.

Brush with toothsoap

For starters, gum disease, as evidenced by pink bristles, multiplies your risk of developing heart disease by seven.

"Unhealthy gums result from an active bacterial infection, so there's probably something else going on in your body that's not good," says Domenick Zero, D.D.S., director of the oral-health research institute at Indiana University. And research has linked diseases of the mouth to problems in the pancreas, stomach, sinuses, and more. Luckily, your mouth is easier to explore than your organs, and symptoms appear early enough for you to stop the damage.

Here's what your mouth is saying, if you'd only lend an ear.

IF ALL ELSE FAILS - NOT TO WORRY

Dentures might be the answer

If you’ve lost all of your natural teeth, whether from periodontal disease, tooth decay or injury, complete dentures can replace your missing teeth and your smile. Replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health. Without support from the denture, facial muscles sag, making a person look older. You’ll be able to eat and speak—things that people often take for granted until their natural teeth are lost.

There are various types of complete dentures. A conventional full denture is made and placed in the patient’s mouth after the remaining teeth are removed and tissues have healed which may take several months. An immediate complete denture is inserted as soon as the remaining teeth are removed. The dentist takes measurements and makes models of the patient’s jaws during a preliminary visit. With immediate dentures, the denture wearer does not have to be without teeth during the healing period.

Even if you wear full dentures, you still must take good care of your mouth. Brush your gums, tongue and palate every morning with a soft-bristled brush before you insert your dentures to stimulate circulation in your tissues and help remove plaque.

 UPDATES

Food decisions to benefit the health of your mouth?

We all know that sugary, sticky foods contribute to a higher risk of getting cavities, but what other connections are there between our diets and our mouth?

Interestingly, the health status of our mouths can tell a lot about our overall nutrition. A poor diet can not only cause unpleasant issues such as chronic bad breath, but it can also cause major problems such as periodontal disease. This means inflammation and destruction of the tissues and structures that hold our teeth in place. Mouth sores, tooth pain and loss of teeth can lead to a downward spiral of malnutrition and other health concerns. Problems with our mouths can happen at any age, not just in the latter years of life. More information on oral health and nutrition here.
